Velma Dilworth McCollough was an active participant in Millersville University governance after her graduation with the Class of 1924. She served on the Millersville State College board of trustees for 23 years, 11 of which she served as the Vice President of the Board. She served as director of student services in 1959 and was named the director of the Millersville University Foundation Board in 1966. Upon her retirement from the Board of Trustees, McCollough became the first Trustee Emeritus and received the Alumni Associations’ Distinguished Service Award. She was one of the three originators of the annual Dilworth-McCollough Prize for excellence in English. The Communications and Theater Department is housed in a complex named in her honor. Â
