Anna Lyle taught in the Lancaster and Wilkes Barre areas after her graduation from Millersville in 1866. She joined the Millersville faculty in 1873 as associate professor of history and civics serving as the first female professor of history at Millersville. Her leadership skills led her to become Preceptress and the chair of the history department. Outside of the classroom, she was a sponsor of the Page Literary Society. At the end of her 46 years career, one of the longest in Millersville History, Anna Lyle resigned in 1917 over a “sickness dispute”. Lyle passed away in 1923, just six years later, at age 85. Lyle Hall, a former dormitory for woman, is named in her honor and now houses administrative offices.
