Title A name given to the resource Latino Digital Mural Oral History Project Description An account of the resource The Latino Mural oral history project is compiled of interviews organized by artist Michelle Angela Ortiz conducted by students in Dr. Christine Filippone's Contemporary art course and Dr. Kimberly Mahaffy’s African American and Latino educational experiences course in the spring of 2011. The overarching goal of the project was to break away from the traditional academic experience and give a presence to the Latino community at Millersville and in Lancaster. Those who were interviewed were asked to contribute images of family, themselves or important objects to create the two murals . One mural is on display in the Student Memorial Center, while the other was on display at Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster for a limited time. Sound A resource primarily intended to be heard. And a lot of people that I surround myself with now that are Latino leaders they were born in their given countries. So, I wasn’t born in Puerto Rico so – I don’t celebrate and brag about myself being Puerto Rican, I call myself a “New York-rican” because it’s – it’s a different upbringing totally. And I always worked hard at getting rid of my Brooklyn accent. That was one of m goals. I wanted to speak well.
